Well, installation really wasn't difficult at all. The documentation on the Joomla! site was easy enough to follow. Due to restrictions in place on my server and a desire to poke around in the engine, as it were, I did a manual installation.
It took a while to familiarize myself with the admin back-end. I like the interface, for the most part. It can be a bit confusing to get used to the idea of a module being a thing on a page, and a component being a thing in the module.
I can't wait to start building templates. I want to see how easy it is to control the look-and-feel of a site with Joomla!
I definitely do not like the administration section for managing articles. If you filter your view to make it possible to find an item, when you click anything, it comes back to the initial view, and you have to filter all over again. I'm also finding it a bit difficult to force the order of articles in the News category. It always wants to display the most recently posted one first. Otherwise, once you're familiar with the architectural concept behind Joomla!, it's pretty easy to use the admin tools.
Un-publishing a section doesn't remove it from a menu list, so you have to remember to edit your menu when you un-publish a section.
My first impression is that the Joomla! system is great for web-sites which publish a lot of articles or blog entries. After a period of initial tweaking to get things displaying just how you like, there's nothing left to do but add stories. ;)
